My Chemical Romance Revel In Download Spotlightby Contributor | 09 June 2007
My Chemical Romance wowed crowds as they closed the first night of the Download Festival last night.
The US alt rock band successfully headlined their first-ever UK festival at Donnington Park, reeling off hits Welcome to the Black Parade and Famous Last Words.
The group also gave a rendition of their new single Teenagers, which lead singer Gerard Way described as a song "about violence".
Linkin Park get top billing at Donnington today, with Marilyn Manson following the Californian rockers on the main stage.
Both Linkin Park and Manson recently released albums in Minutes to Midnight and Eat Me, Drink Me.
Earlier this month Manson criticised My Chemical Romance for aping his sound, but the gothy-four piece responded in unconcerned fashion.
"We still haven't found someone that has knocked us down that we need to take seriously," Way told Rock Sound magazine.
"If Elvis Costello said we sucked we would think about it a bit but usually it is comments from someone with a new record to promote so the remarks ring hollow."
