Beyonce - Music Superstars Team Up For Ticket Reward Scheme

Beyonce, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen and One Direction are among the chart-topping stars joining a concert scheme which rewards fans for their involvement in social activism.

Jay Z, Kanye West, Usher, Ke$ha, Foo Fighters and Neil Young have also signed up for the Global Citizen Tickets Initiative, which allows fans to rack up points when they help further change by signing petitions and contacting government representatives, or raising money for charity. Points can then be used to enter into a lottery to win free gig passes.

Each of the acts joining the initiative will hand over a pair of tickets from every show they play over the next three years.

Pearl Jam's manager Kelly Curtis helped come up with the idea while organising the 2012 Global Citizen Festival in New York City, which featured Young, Foo Fighters and the Black Keys, and generated $1.3 billion in donations for anti-poverty organisations.

He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "I'm hit up (asked) every day for something, whether it's to play or donate a song or give money. I just thought, 'What would accomplish a lot that wouldn't require time or anything - what if everyone gave a show?' You're talking about social activism in a really great way."

In a statement to Billboard magazine, pop sensations One Direction said, "We are thrilled to be part of the Global Citizen campaign - a brilliant way to reward fantastic volunteers fighting against global poverty. We can't wait to see some 'global citizens' at our shows!"
