Muse rock intimate War Child show

Muse rocked the O2 and War Child BRIT Awards charity concert in London last night (18.02.13).

The 'Madness' band performed an intimate show for just 2,000 fans at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire, but despite the size of the venue didn't strip back their huge stadium rock sound.

The group took to the stage with recent single 'Supremacy', before launching into fan favourite 'Supermassive Black Hole'.

Their set mixed material from across their six albums, including 'Sunburn' from their debut, and a rare outing for the 2002 non-album single 'Dead Star'.

Frontman Matt Bellamy seemed comfortable performing for a smaller crowd, saying from the stage: ''This is a nice vibe, we should do a tour like this.''

The singer - who is joined in the band by drummer Dom Howard, and bass player Chris Wolstenholme - regularly touched hands with the front row of the audience and at one point even let fans strum his guitar for him during a solo.

Matt also played a white piano during the more low key parts of the set, while Chris played a number of basses with special lights implanted in them, making them glow.

He explained how the group had stripped down their huge stage show to keep costs down, telling BBC Newsbeat: ''You don't want to be spending all the money on pyramids and flashing lights - that's money that could be going to charity.''

The band were watched by a number of stars including One Direction's Harry Styles, model Cara Delevingne, The Kills musician Jamie Hince and singer Rita Ora, who at one point was spotted deep in conversation with Matt's partner, Kate Hudson.

Muse ended their main set with 'Time is Running Out' and 'Uprising', before returning for an encore of 'Starlight' and 'Survival'.

After the show Chris tweeted: ''What a great night. Was like the good old days. Nothing like being in your own bed after a show. Doesn't happen very often. Totally knackered. Night everyone.''
