Murdoch Biographer Accuses Rupert Of Lying To Parliament
Michael Wolff, the author of the Rupert Murdoch biography The Man Who Owns the News , has accused Murdoch of lying to a Parliamentary committee last week when he stated that he had little involvement with the now-shuttered News of the World. In his testimony, Murdoch said " The News of the World perhaps I lost sight of, maybe because it was so mall in the general frame of our company." However, in an interview with the London Independent, Wolff, who recorded some 60 hours of interviews with Murdoch for his 2008 book (and subsequently had a falling-out with Murdoch) indicated that he witnessed the News Corp chief spending half his day speaking to people connected with his newspapers and suggested that his testimony was based on advice that Murdoch received from advisers. "They said, 'You have got to say you are not involved with the newspapers,' and that's what he said and that's a lie." Meanwhile, the Independent disclosed today that members of the Murdoch family had more than two dozen private meetings with senior members of the British government in the 15 months following David Cameron's taking over as prime minister
