Michael Bloomberg - MTV Video Music Awards Relocating To Brooklyn!

This year's MTV Video Music awards will be staged in Brooklyn, New York, MTV has announced.

The 30th annual ceremony will be held at the Barclays Centre - the home of the Brooklyn Nets basketball team - relocating from the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, California, which has hosted the ceremony for the last three years.

The music industry bash began in 1984 and have been held New York City, Miami, Las Vegas, and most recently in Los Angeles.

New York mayor Michael Bloomberg expressed his delight at the awards coming to the Big Apple.

He said: ''Brooklyn is home to icons like the Cyclone in Coney Island and the Brooklyn Bridge, and now it can lay claim to the MTV Video Music Awards.

''This will bring hundreds of jobs as crews work on the production and provide a boost to our local economy as attendees stay in hotels, eat in local restaurants and experience all the area has to offer.''

MTV President Stephen Friedman added: ''From a vibrant musical scene for up-and-coming artists to epic concerts by today's biggest stars and the triumphant return of pro sports to the borough after nearly 60 years, Brooklyn has re-emerged as a cultural capital where music, sports and entertainment history is made every day''.

Using Twitter and Instagram to announce the news, pictures were posted of the VMAs' famous Moonman statue standing outside famous locations on the journey from Los Angeles to Brooklyn, including New York's John F. Kennedy Airport.

MTV will be looking for a ratings increase this year after last year's attracted just 6.1 million viewers, in comparison to 12.4 million in 2011.
