Mtv Video Music Awards Nominations Revealed; Rihanna And Drake Are Leading Contenders

The nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards are in and in an intriguing twist, it's former lovers Rihanna and Drake who lead the way in the category nods, with each up for five awards each. It's fair to say that both have had an eventful year thus far in 2012, with Chris Brown irrevocably linked to the bulk of their headlines - RiRi has been consistently rumoured to be getting back with him three years after he assaulted her before the Grammy Awards, whilst the Canadian producer was recently embroiled in a well-publicised New York bar brawl with the 22 year-old - but it's their music that could be filling the news columns come the awards night on September 6th.

Rihanna is up twice for the biggest prize of the ceremony, video of the year, with her solo hit 'We Found Love' and her duet with Drake 'Take Care' both up for the gong. The pop star is also up for best female video, best pop video, best choreography and best visual effects. As for Drake? As well as his aforementioned video nod, he could potentially walk away with best hip-hop video, best male video, best art direction and best cinematography.

Last year's big winner Katy Perry could also pick up a few awards again, she's been nominated in four categories, whilst a number of names are contesting three awards, including Beyonce, Coldplay, Frank Ocean, M.I.A and Watch The Throne.
