Mtv Boss Was Worried About Madonna's Jackson Tribute
The pop star spent a large segment at the front of the prizegiving speaking candidly about her relationship with the King of Pop and lambasting others for not stepping in to save him before his drug habit turned deadly.
But she had to convince Toffler to let her say what she needed to - because he thought her tribute would be too sombre for his ceremony.
Madonna reveals, "It was my tribute to Michael Jackson... I was very clear about what I had to say and I was anxious for an opportunity to say it, even though Van Toffler wasn't keen on me doing it.
"I think he was nervous about the seriousness of my speech and whether I was gonna be able to hold people's attention."
