Movie Reviews Season Of The Witch
Nicolas Cage is once again being skewered by critics for his decision to appear in Season of the Witch. Their reviews are even more scathing than the ones for last year's The Sorcerer's Apprentice . Roger Moore in the Orlando Sentinel calls the movie, set in medieval times, "the latest in a long, almost uninterrupted run of junk movies that are beneath an actor of his Oscar-winning caliber." Joe Neumaier in the New York Post speculates that Cage takes roles in such dreadful movies because of his tax troubles. However, he adds, "You don't need an eye of newt and toe of frog to see that the paycheck roles aren't paying off the way they should." Cage, says Mark Olsen in the Los Angeles Times "seems to be sleepwalking through" much of the movie. On the other hand, Roger Ebert remarks in the Chicago Sun-Times that Cage and co-star Ron Perlman have had much better roles in the past. "Here, like cows, they devour the scenery, regurgitate it to a second stomach found only in actors and chew it as cud."
