Movie Research Turns Neeson Into A Civil War Buff
The Rob Roy star poured himself into research for new period films SERAPHIM FALLS and LINCOLN, in which he plays 16th US President Abraham Lincoln, and has become quite a buff.
He says, "When I was asked to do Seraphim Falls, I was already about a year into research for Lincoln, so I just kept reading. I'm very, very heavily into the Civil War and that whole period.
"It's still an ongoing process. There are over 2,000 books written on Lincoln alone and I've read about 22 of them.
"I love that period of US history. I've been to Lincoln's home in Washington, DC, I've held his wallet, I've said a prayer on the bible he was inaugurated on.
"I read his personal letters and stood on the stage at the Ford Theater, where he was shot. You can't go in the balcony, it's sealed off."
