Morrissey Blasts Damien Hirst

Morrissey said he thinks British artist Damien Hirst's head should be ''kept in a bag'' because of his use of dead animals in his artwork.

Morrissey reckons artist Damien Hirst's head should be "kept in a bag" for using dead animals in his artwork.

The 'You Have Killed Me' singer and animal rights activist blasted the British artist - who is famous for works including dead and dissected animals including a shark, sheep and cow kept in formaldehyde - for using the creatures for artwork which has generated him personal gain.

Discussing the artists work with artist Linder Sterling, he said: "I dislike the 'use' of animals in art, such as in the work of Damien Hirst. Do you agree that Hirst's head should be kept in a bag for the way he's utilized-and sold-dead animals?"

The artist replied: "Dead butterflies, cows, horses, humans, sheep, and sharks-it reads like the inventory of a funerary Noah.

"How many halved calves suspended in formaldehyde does the world need? To my way of thinking, none."

Morrissey also claimed the wealth accrued by Damien - reputed to be the world's richest living artist, whose works have sold for over £10 million pounds - "reduces him to mere factory outlet".

The former The Smiths singer is a staunch supporter of animal rights and has previously stormed offstage at the Coachella music festival in the US in as he could smell the fumes from cooking burgers on a nearby stand.

He said:"The smell of burning animals is making me sick. I just couldn't bear it."
