Monster movie CLOVERFIELD destroyed the opposition to top of the U.S. box office chart. The film, about a reptile that devastates New York City, debuted with takings of $41 million (GBP20.5 million) in its opening weekend (19-20Jan08). Romantic comedy 27 Dresses came in second with $22.4 million (GBP11.2 million), followed by The Bucket List with $15.2 million (GBP7.6 million). Caper movie Mad Money - starring Diane Keaton, Katie Holmes and Queen Latifah - opened in a disappointing seventh place, with a lowkey $7.7 million (GBP3.85 million).
