Molly Ringwald - Molly Ringwald Covers The Breakfast Club's 'Don't You (Forget About Me)
Molly Ringwald offers a laid back version of Simple Minds' biggest hit 'Don't You (Forget About Me)'
Molly Ringwald, of The Breakfast Club fame, has covered the film's main theme song for her new jazz album Except Sometimes. The singer puts a new spin on the catchy track, originally by Simple Minds.
"When I recorded the album...it was really soon after John Hughes passed away. And he was in my mind a lot," Ringwald told Vulture when asked why she decided to record the classic track. "And, I don't know, I felt like I wanted to sing a tribute to him. And also, I wanted to incorporate who I was into who I am." The Breakfast Club - directed by the late great John Hughes - and starring Ringwald, Emilio Estevez and Anthony Michael Hall followed five teenagers as they spend a Saturday detention together and come to realise they are all deeper than their respective stereotypes.
Simple Minds' Don't You (Forget About Me) was the first track on the popular soundtrack from the movie, released in 1985. It peaked at No.17 on the US Billboard 200 album chart, while the single reached No.1 on the US Hot 100. The song has previously been covered by Billy Idol (who was offered to record the song before Simple Minds did), Life of Agony, New Found Glory and Anna Kendrick on the 2012 movie Pitch Perfect.
