Chuck Berry - Missouri Locals Upset About Chuck Berry Statue Tribute
The proposed installation of a statue tribute to Chuck Berry in the rock 'n' roll legend's hometown has upset locals - because they don't think the hitmaker deserves the honour.
The larger-than-life memorial is set to be erected outside fabled venue Blueberry Hill in St. Louis, Missouri next month (Jul11) but a small group of activists is attempting to stall the launch and force officials to rethink the idea altogether.
The protest group leaders oppose the statue because, in their eyes, Berry is "not a friend to women", based on his 1962 conviction of illegally transporting a teenage Native American hooker across state lines so she could work at his nightclub, Berry's Bandstand.
The Johnny B. Goode singer spent 18 months behind bars for the crime.
