In Mindy McCready's final taped conversation before her death, the country singer told private investigator Danno Hanks that her late boyfriend David Wilson tried to tell her something as he lay dying from a gunshot wound just over a month ago. McCready - who was also found dead this week - knew she was being recorded and recounted the experience of finding Mr Wilson in her Heber Springs home.

"He was lying on the ground with his brains all over the floor," McCready told Danno "And then I held him and I kissed him and I told him I forgave him. And I said, 'David, none of this means anything. You didn't have to do this. Please, don't die. Please. We love you so much. Please don't die.'" Though it was reported the gunshot wound that killed Wilson was self-inflicted, local and state police are still trying to piece together what happened before they put the case to bed - something confused by McCready's own alleged suicide. During the conversation, the country star said Wilson "didn't die for two hours," adding, "But he was trying to tell me something. He was grabbing me and trying to talk. Of course he couldn't talk at that point, half of his brain was on the floor."

McCready's sons, 6-year-old Zander and 9-month old Zayne, were placed in foster care when she entered a mental health facility under a court order this month. On February 17, 2013, Mindy was found dead at the same Heber Springs residence that boyfriend David spent his final moments. She too died of a gunshot wound.
