The 19-year-old singer and actress was clearly delighted to announce the news, saying, "I'm so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam". The engagement follows months of rumors about the status of the couple's relationship, with Cyrus being spotted wearing a diamond ring at a film premiere back in March. She's also been snapped keeping up with an exercise regime in recent months, with some fans predicting she was getting in shape for her wedding. Speaking on the Today show on Wednesday (June 6, 2012), People magazine's Julie Jordan said of the engagement, "It's kind of sweet, because they shared Miley's first on-screen kiss together. They've been together since she was 16. They have a very playful relationship. Very real. Very honest".

Though Miley is an established star on both stage and screen, her fiance Liam has also come into his own in recent years. He is now best known for his role in the hugely successful 'Hunger Games' movie, and has already signed on for the two further films in the franchise.
