Miley Cyrus Debuts 'Theodore Roosevelt' Tattoo
The 19-year-old stepped out in West Hollywood on Tuesday (July 10, 2012), with photographers managing to snap her new ink. The quote reads, "So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat". Cyrus has previously spoken to Harper's Bazaar about the significance of her tattoos, saying, "It really doesn't hurt if you're thinking about the meaning.I could never get a meaningless tattoo, but I think that if you're doing something that's important, that's significant in your life, it takes some of the pain away". Among the other tattoos that Miley has dotted around her body, are 'Just Breathe' on her ribcage, 'Love' on her ear, a heart on her right hand, a dream catcher designer on her stomach, a cross on her wedding ring finger, and 'Love Never Dies' on her left arm. As mentioned, her latest tattoo derives from a famous speech by the 26th President of the United States of America, and is often used in a motivational capacity in schools and colleges, especially sports.
Though Miley probably chose the quote for its Roosevelt connection, the words were also uttered by President Nixon in his famous resignation speech in 1974. On that occasion, it brought with it an air of self-pity.
