Miles Davis' Nephew Excited About Bitches Brew Anniversary Revamp

Miles Davis' classic album BITCHES BREW is to get a 30th anniversary revamp at a Los Angeles street festival this weekend (21Aug10) - courtesy of electro/hip-hop pioneer J Rocc and the jazz legend's nephew.

The Beat Junkies star and percussionist Vince Wilburn, Jr. are planning to collaborate onstage at the Sunset Junction festival on Saturday night, playing the entire 1970 album with a twist.

Wilburn, Jr., who was a longtime member of Davis' band, admits he's excited to hear what J Rocc has come up with at rehearsals on Friday (20Aug10), and, despite the fact jazz snobs are frowning on the idea of meddling with a Davis classic, the drummer insists his uncle would love the idea.

He tells WENN, "He (Davis) was always a forward thinker and I think he would have dug it.

"I had guys who turned the gig down because they didn't want to touch Bitches Brew, but what we're trying to do is just interpret the music and do it justice, put our spin on it."

Wilburn, Jr. hopes to take the show on the road if it's a hit at Sunset Junction and invite jazz greats and friends like Chick Corea and Lenny White, who played on Bitches Brew, and Herbie Hancock to join him onstage - as part of a tribute to his late uncle next year (11) to commemorate what would have been Davis' 85th birthday.

He adds, "That would be killer... We're in contact with Chick and Herbie. All these guys are booked up for the next three years but I wanted to do, like, a Miles alumni show in maybe New York and Los Angeles and then maybe tour it in Europe. It will be like a floating thing."
