Mila Kunis Targeted In Ukrainian Politician's Anti-Semitic Rant
A Ukrainian politician went off on one heck of a rant, complete with anti-Semitic slurs, as he condemned the Ukrainian-born actress Mila Kunis on Facebook.
Igor Miroshnichenko went on the social media site to condemn Kunis, who was born in the Ukraine and is in fact Jewish, claiming that she is not a true Ukrainian, and called the actress a "zhydovka." Zhydovka literally translates to "dirty Jewess," according to Los Angeles' Simon Wiesenthal Center, and is a derogative term that has been used in the Baltic states and beyond for decades.
According to TMZ, who broke the story about Miroshnichenko's foul-rant, the Ukrainian Jewish community, and now Jewish communities across the globe, are up in arms about the rant and are demanding some form of apology from the Ukrainian government and Miroshnichenko. However, the nation's government have only replied by saying that the word was OK to use because it appears in the Ukrainian dictionary as a term for a Jew that isn't necessarily a slur, and have so far not apologised for the offence.
Members of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in particular have expressed their outrage at the rant, with Rabbi Marvin Hier sending an open letter to the Ukrainian Prime Minister demanding a response. So far, neither the Ukrainian PM or Kunis have given word on the situation.
