Midnight In Paris Could Eclipse Woody Allen's Previous Films
Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris is on track this week to surpass his two biggest domestic moneymakers, Match Point and Vicky Cristina Barcelona and appears likely to become his greatest success ever if it surpasses the $40.1 million earned by Hannah and Her Sisters in 1986, the Hollywood Reporter observed today (Thursday). It also is expected to become Sony Classics' biggest hit since 2000's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which earned $128.1 million domestically, the trade publication observed. In an interview with THR in 2008, Allen maintained that he never concerns himself with box office. "I've never played that game because it's a very, very doubled-edged sword -- the 'hit-flop' syndrome, where you have a tremendous hit and then suddenly you get one or two that aren't and you're out," he said. "If my film is a disaster, they lose a couple of bucks, so it doesn't mean that much to them. If you take all my pictures over the years, I've been a profitable investment."
