Mickey Rourke 'Requested Song For Wrestler'by Contributor | 24 November 2008
MICKEY ROURKE wrote BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN a personal letter asking the singer to pen the title song to his forthcoming film THE WRESTLER.
The film - which is directed by Darren Aronofsky - is Rourke's first leading role for 15 years.
It tells the story of Randy 'The Ram' Robinson, a washed-up professional wrestler attempting a comeback a story which Rourke has noted is not dissimilar to his own.
Rourke told Uncut how he managed to get the legendary songwriter to contribute to the project.
"I wrote Bruce a letter, because we've known each other over twenty years, and he knows what I used to be, or whatever. Where I went. What I'd been reduced to. I told him how I felt lucky now and didn't have to end up being this guy, being Randy," he explained.
Rourke added that he received a phone call in the middle of the night from The Boss to tell him he had written the song, which the actor claimed made him proud as Bruce is "a busy cat".
THE WRESTLER is due for release on January 16.
