A - Mick Jagger's Stage Costume Sells For $32,000

A stage costume worn by SIR MICK JAGGER sold at auction in London for $32,000 (£20,000) just hours before the Rolling Stones took to the stage for their second comeback show in the British capital.

The sleeveless white velour jumpsuit, created by British fashion designer Ossie Clark, was worn by Jagger during the band's notorious 1972 American tour and it outstripped its estimated $20,000 (£12,000) price tag to sell for $32,000 (£20,000) at the Christie's auction on Thursday (29Nov12).

The sale may have been buoyed by the band's return to the stage after a long absence to play two huge 50th anniversary gigs at London's O2 Arena, concluding the shows on Thursday night ahead of three upcoming U.S. concerts.

Other items in the auction included a conical corset worn by Madonna on her 1990 Blonde Ambition tour, which sold for more than double its estimate at $51,920 (£32,450), and a shirt worn by John Lennon which made $18,000 (£11,250).

The massive auction also included plenty of movie memorabilia - a whip featured in three of Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones movies made $32,000 (£20,000) and a chalice from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade sold for $19,000 (£11,875).

A prop house sign from new James Bond movie Skyfall fetched three times its estimated value, raking in $14,000 (£8,750).
