Michod Is Australia's Top Director
Australian moviemaker DAVID MICHOD has won the top honour at the 2010 Australian Directors Guild Awards for his edgy film ANIMAL KINGDOM.
The movie stars Guy Pearce and tells the story of young boy born into a criminal family and a detective who attempts to save him from his fate.
It won the coveted World Cinema Jury Prize at this year's (10) Sundance Film Festival in Utah and it landed a Best Direction award for Michod in his native country on Thursday night (23Sep10).
The show, which took place in Sydney, also saw Michod honoured for Best Direction in a Stand-Alone Documentary for Solo, which he shared with Jennifer Peedom.
He told reporters at the ceremony, "It's been a whirlwind. But at the same time, given that I started writing the thing 10 years ago, the various achievements have happened so incrementally it's amazing how I have been able to take it in my stride. It's only ever now and then, in moments of quiet, I imagine what myself 10 years ago (would have made of it)."
