Michelle Williams - Michelle Williams Sets Hearts Racing As Marilyn Monroe

Michelle Williams is once again winning plaudits - this time for her turn as one of Hollywood's most iconic screen stars, Marilyn Monroe. Williams, 24, has already been nominated for two Academy Awards, but critics are suggesting 'My Weekend With Marilyn' is her best role yet.
Monroe won over audiences with her pin-up style roles in 'Gentleman Prefer Blondes', 'How to Marry a Millionaire' and 'The Seven Year Itch', but Williams was surprised as to how witty and intelligent the screen siren was, telling Fox News, "People think that maybe she wasn't as bright as she actually was. I just feel so lucky - I never thought I would wind up here, playing Marilyn". Not a biopic as such, the movie chronicles the tumultuous making of The Prince and the Showgirl, a movie starring Monroe opposite Laurence Olivier. It focuses on a week in which Marilyn spent time being escorted around Britain by filmmaker Colin Clark after her husband Arthur Muller had left the country. Williams says such was the difficulty of playing the role, that she was afraid to step out of character while off-camera, saying, "I tried to keep her voice, I tried to keep her walk, and I tried to keep as much close by as I could at all times". Director Simon Curtis had no reservations about Michelle playing the potentially intimidating lead role, explaining, "She's a great actress playing a great icon. I was just desperate for her to say yes. She was intrigued, she liked it, but had to go through her own process, which I completely understood, because it was a massive thing to take on".
The performance is likely win Williams yet another Oscar nomination in 2012, though bookmakers are looking no further than Meryl Streep to take the Best Actress award for her role as Margaret Thatcher in 'The Iron Lady'.
