Michelle Williams' Father Loses Extradition Appeal
BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN actress MICHELLE WILLIAMS' father has lost his appeal against a second attempt to extradite him from Australia to the U.S. on tax evasion charges.
Stock market trader Larry Williams, 64, was first arrested in Sydney in May 2006, on the request of U.S. authorities, after leaving his home in the Virgin Islands to begin a speaking tour in the city.
He has been free on $857,000 (GBP428,500) since, as U.S. authorities attempt to have him returned to America to face charges of willfully attempting to evade $1.5 million (GBP750,000) in taxes from 1990 to 2001.
After losing an appeal in court in Sydney on Friday (03Aug07), magistrates are now free to consider the extradition request - although a hearing date has yet to be set.
