Michael Moore And Oliver Stone Sign Julian Assange Asylum Petition
Assange is on bail in the U.K. as he fights extradition to Sweden where he is accused of sexually assaulting two women.
He fears the transfer could lead to his deportation to the U.S. to face charges stemming from his website, which leaked hundreds of top secret documents, and sought sanctuary at Ecuador's embassy in London last week (ends24Jun12).
Now a host of Hollywood hotshots have added their signatures to a petition delivered to the Ecuador embassy by a group called Just Foreign Policy, which calls on the South American country's president Rafael Correa to greenlight Assange's bid for asylum.
The group says in the letter, "We also call on you to grant Mr Assange political asylum because the 'crime' that he has committed is that of practising journalism."
Other names on the document include actor Danny Glover and U.S. TV host Bill Maher.
