Michael Kors, the acclaimed fashion designer who also appears as a judge on reality show 'Project Runway', is to marry his long-time partner Lance Lepere now that gay marriage is legal in New York State. Kors is the latest gay public figure to announce plans to marry, reports Reuters.
The couple were reportedly spotted at City Hall in New York applying for a marriage license on Thursday (4th August 2011). Kors, who first met LePere in 1990 when he began working at his fashion house as an intern, was understandably delighted, saying, "Lance and I are very excited to finally be able to have the opportunity to marry in our home state after many years together". The couple say they have no plans for a "major party" and will be getting married privately. Actor Neil Patrick Harris recently reiterated his intention to marry long-term partner David Burtka, who have been engaged for several years. The 'How I Met Your Mother' star has also claimed his eventual wedding would be a low-key affair, and the couple are yet to decide on date or location.
Michael Kors, a New York City native, is best known for his classic American sportswear creations for women. His designs have been worn by the likes of Freida Pinto and ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY.
