Michael Jackson's Family Joined By Fans For 54th Birthday Vigil

Michael Jackson's children and other members of his family were joined by fans of the much-loved pop star at a vigil to celebrate what would've been the self-styled King of Pop's 54th birthday. The meeting took place at the Michael Jackson 's childhood home on 2300 Jackson Street, Gary, Indiana, where Michael, his many siblings and their parents lived until 1969. The vigil is just one of a number of events planned by the family to commemorate the occasion, including a dinner tomorrow (August 31st) and a concert the day after. Certainly the dinner should be interesting, given the recent ructions around the family, and we might go as far as to suggest that not everyone will turn up for it.

The Press Association reports that, before the vigil, Jackson's children, 14-year-old Paris and 15-year-old Prince Michael, were given blue Team Gary T-shirts by Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson as they posed for pictures at a casino overlooking Lake Michigan. They didn't speak during the presentation, but did sign autographs for fans in attendance outside the home. Jackson's sister La Toya Jackson addressed the gathered crowd, saying that the family's musical fame started in this city before uttering "we all love you, Michael."

With arguments about the late star's estate still rumbling on, at least one issue was sorted out last week when his nephew TJ Jackson was appointed joint-guardian for Michael's three children, alongside his mother KATHERINE JACKSON.

He was not the 'self-styled' King of Pop. The late Elizabeth Taylor gave him the title. See her foreword in Michael's book 'Dancing the Dream'.
