Michael Jackson - Michael Jackson Estate Angry Over Simmons' Involvement In Tribute Gig
The executors of Michael Jackson's estate have fired off an angry letter to the organisers of his upcoming tribute concert after they signed up Kiss to perform, because Gene Simmons suggested the late legend was a paedophile in an interview last year (10).
Katherine Jackson has organised the Michael Forever: The Tribute Concert in Cardiff, Wales to take place on 08 October (11) in memory of her late son, with Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Leona Lewis and Smokey Robinson among the acts on the bill.
Kiss were added to the line-up on Monday (15Aug11) in a move which angered some fans because the band's outlandish bassist Simmons talked about the claims of child molestation which followed the singer throughout his later years.
He told Classic Rock Magazine, "No matter what my fond memories and fond images of Michael were, with one allegation of paedophilia after another and another and another...Oh dear."
Jackson's estate lawyer Howard Weitzman is furious organisers behind the event have included the rocker on the bill, and has sent a letter demanding more information on the concert.
Weitzman writes, "We are aware that Michael Forever has the support of some members of the Jackson family, including Joseph Jackson, Katherine Jackson, La Toya, Marlon, Jackie and Tito Jackson and we have read that the event is opposed by Jermaine and Randy Jackson.
"We were especially disappointed today with the announcement that the band Kiss and guitarist Gene Simmons were added as one of the acts to perform... As I'm sure you are aware, Mr Simmons has made numerous disparaging public comments about Michael Jackson after his passing."
Jackson was famously acquitted of child molestation charges in 2005 after a highly-publicised five-month trial.
