Michael Douglas To Get Treatment For Cancerous Tumour

MICHAEL DOUGLAS will undergo treatment after doctors discovered a cancerous tumour in his throat. Eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy treatment will now begin, with the actor - best known for his portrayal of Gordon Gekko in the ACADEMY AWARD winning Wall Street - expected to make a full recovery. Douglas, now 65, said in a statement to the People.com website that he was "very optimistic" about the outcome.
Douglas is married to CATHERINE ZETA-JONES, and the couple have two children, as well as Michael's son CAMERON DOUGLAS from a previous marriage. Cameron was jailed for five years in April 2010 for a series of drug offences that included heroin possession.
The son of Hollywood giant KIRK DOUGLAS, Michael's career highlights include the aforementioned Wall Street, Romancing the Stone, and Basic Instinct - he also won a Best Film OSCAR for the 1975 hit film One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, a film he produced. Douglas is set to appear in STEVEN SODERBERGH's action thriller Haywire next year, as well as reprising his role as Gordon Gekko for OLIVER STONE'S Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, which premiered at the CANNES FILM FESTIVAL, and is officially released on 24st September 2010.

My father had the same diagnosis in 2000. They took his voicebox. It was the worst thing they could have done. My father lost all hope after that and spent the the following 2.5 years being frustrated with the inability to communicate. He was a very talkative man with a great sense of humor. He did the radiation, but the chemo was way too much for him. His tumor came back and he passed away in 2002. I am thinking and praying for Michael and Catherine. Every time I hear this diagnosis the memories come flooding back.
