Metallica Remember Dio At Portugal Show

Rockers Metallica paid tribute to late heavy metal legend RONNIE JAMES DIO during a concert in Lisbon, Portugal on Tuesday (18May10) by playing one of his classic Black Sabbath songs.

The stage at the Pavilhao Atlantico was plunged into darkness as the band played the intro to Black Sabbath's Children Of The Sea.

They then dedicated their track Fade To Black to the late star, much to the delight of the crowd.

Shortly after Dio's passing on Sunday (16May10), drummer Lars Ulrich wrote an emotional open letter remembering his pal.

He said, "I'm kind of in shock, but I wanted you to know that you were one of the main reasons I made it onto that stage to begin with.

"Ronnie, your voice impacted and empowered me, your music inspired and influenced me, and your kindness touched and moved me. Thank you. Much love, Lars."
