Meryl Streep - Meryl Streep Vs Michelle Williams For Best Actress Oscar
Meryl Streep has, as expected, found herself among the nominations for the Best Actress Award at the biggest ceremony of them all, the 84th Academy Awards, as the nominations were announced today. Streep played the first and to-date only UK female Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the biopic 'The Iron Lady,' a film which has split the country down the middle, not that Hollywood would let a contentious political figure get in the way of a good yarn.
Streep's performance has been widely reported by critics to be the finest aspect of the whole film and she'll head towards the Oscars on February 26th with an award for Best Actress at the Golden Globes already in the bag in 2012 as well as expected success at the forthcoming Baftas and Screen Actors Guild Awards. Streep already possesses an Academy Award for Best Actress from 1982's 'Sophie's Choice,' as well as picking up a Supporting Actress gong back in 1979 as Joanna Kramer in 'Kramer Vs. Kramer.'
If she's to win her second Best Actress prize however she'll have to fight off some stern competition, reports the Los Angeles Times. Among the other nominees are Michelle Williams, nominated for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in 'My Week With Marilyn,' 'Albert Nobbs'' Glenn Close, Viola Davis for her character Abileen Clark in 'The Help'and 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo's' Rooney Mara - the 26 year-old's first lead actress Academy nomination.
