Meryl Streep 'Thrilled' At Bafta Nomination

Meryl Streep is "thrilled" to have been nominated for a BAFTA.

The Hollywood actress has been given a nod for the Leading Actress award for her performance as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in 'The Iron Lady' in the same category in which she triumphed at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (15.01.12). She said in a statement: "Thrilling thrilling news! Not just for me, but for the film of which I am very proud, and for the hundreds of people who worked on it! Thanks, from a (New) Jersey Girl..."

Michelle Williams, Tilda Swinton, Viola Davis and Berenice Bejo also in the running for the accolade, which will be presented in a ceremony hosted by Stephen Fry at London's Royal Opera House on February 12.

During her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes, Meryl accidentally swore when she realised she had forgotten her glasses and had to remember what she'd pre-prepared.

And the American star went on to thank "everybody in England" for allowing her to take on the role of Thatcher in the biopic.

She "I gotta thank everybody in England who let me come over and trample all over their history, especially Phyllida Lloyd, Abi Morgan who wrote it. All the cast and crew in England. We made it for 25 cents in five minutes, and I'm so proud of the film."
