Meryl Streep - Meryl Streep Forgets Glasses, Swears Onstage At Golden Globes
The Golden Globes winner Meryl Streep has explained what it was that caused her to swear onstage when she got up to make her acceptance speech. According to Access Hollywood, she spoke to their reporter Billy Bush backstage at the event and told him that she resorted to swearing because she had left her reading glasses back at her table and so was unable to read the acceptance speech that she had prepared and therefore did not thank everyone that she had originally intended to.
The moment in question involved Streep saying "Ooooh s*** oh my glasses, I forgot my glasses, now I have to remember my speech." In the post-awards interview, she said to Billy Bush "I said sh** on TV! I did." Luckily for the Iron Lady star, the broadcasters Nbc had a seven second delay in place so that they could effectively censor any such incidents. Clearly frustrated by the situation, Meryl Streep added "I have such a good speech in my pockets. I had everybody's name that I wanted to mention and so as a result, I forgot and I'm apoplectic but what are you gonna do. I'll have to now email everybody and that's just gonna take days."
Meryl Streep beat off competition from Viola Davis, Glenn Close, Rooney Mara and Tilda Swinton to win Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama. The award was won for her portrayal of the former UK Prime Minister MARGARET THATCHER.
