Mendes -- Too Busy To Direct Next 007 Movie
The director of the most successful James Bond movie ever won't be back for the next Bond thriller. Apparently producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli waited too long to ask director Sam Mendes to remain at the helm of the 007 franchise following Skyfall, and Mendes in the meantime committed himself to several theater projects such as a production of Shakespeare's King Lear and a stage version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He is also reportedly working on a horror series, Penny Dreadful, for Showtime with John Logan, the co-writer of Skyfall, who signed on early to write the next two Bond movies. In a statement, Wilson and Broccoli said, We would have loved to have made the next film with [Mendes], but completely respect his decision to focus on other projects and hope to have the opportunity to collaborate with him again.
