Melissa Mccarthy - Melissa Mccarthy Hosts Saturday Night Live
Melissa Mccarthy made her Saturday Night Live debut last night (1/10,) hosting a show that included musical guest Lady Antebellum.
MCCarthy first came to prominence with her role as Sookie St. James on long-running US drama series 'Gilmore Girls' between 2001 and 2007. Her career has really taken off however after being cast in comedy 'Bridesmaids' as the raunchy Megan. The film came out in May and went onto take over $26 million at the US Box Office. Capping it all was a recent EMMY award for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series for 'Mike & Molly,' this gave her the perfect platform to go ahead and host SNL for the first time.
MCCarthy's monologue was a success, reports the Wall Street Blog, while other sketches also included 'Lil Poundcake' - a children's TV ad for a doll - as well as a scene where a pair of barflies came to terms with their own sexual habits.
Elsewhere, the 41 year-old actress told The Hollywood Reporter about her reaction upon being asked to host the second episode of the new series; "I went into such an embarrassing, weird, inappropriately loud cry," she laughed, "Annie [her child, Vivianne] was running in circles. She thinks something horrible is happening because I'm bent over, literally, in the rug section of Living Spaces wailing." It's something she'll have to get used to, as MCCarthy's star seems set to only rise for the foreseeable future.
