Mel Gibson Rules Out Lethal Weapon 5

Mel Gibson has ruled out ever starring in a fifth 'Lethal Weapon' movie.

The 56-year-old actor - who played LAPD detective Martin Riggs in all four 'Lethal Weapon' films from 1987 to 1998 - believes the franchise will be remade eventually, but he admits it will be ''really tough'' to replace Danny Glover, who plays Mel's onscreen partner Roger Murtaugh in the series.

When asked if he would ever do a fifth movie, he said: ''No. I think the way things are going with 'Total Recall', they'll just remake those somehow. Though it's really tough to replace Danny. He was so amazing in those things. It was a good gig for us. It worked. But we knew it would.

''I had fun on every one of them and they were lucrative and good to me. And they really afforded me the opportunity to slow down and pick things and do things that really interested me.''

Mel doesn't have any qualms about Tom Hardy taking on the titular role in the fourth 'Mad Max' film in the franchise - which saw the Hollywood legend portray the action star for the first three movies in the 1980s - and he is looking forward to seeing what director George Miller does with the next instalment.

He added to ComingSoon.net: ''They cast him, but I sat down with the guy and I quite like him. I think he's a good choice for that.

''I'll have a look. It'll be fun. I think he's a good actor. He commits completely and he looks great. There's this scary thing about him which is kind of right for that. Tom needed to sit down and talk more than I did. I'm really happy about that. But I Hope they do a great job. I'm a big fan of George's.

''We talked about this very project like 10 years ago. I actually wanted to do it, but then what happened was, the budget was nuts. It was crazy. I certainly hope they've become more realistic about it.''
