According to Tmz, Mel got an invite to the Dancing With Stars competitor's celebration via one of her wardrobe pals and it certainly looks as though he made himself at home and, surprisingly for Mel, managed to stay out of trouble. Perhaps he wanted to keep himself out of the tabloid headlines that he's been inhabiting of late. He recently had a run-in with screenwriter Joe Eszterhas, threatening to sue him for invasion of privacy after Eszterhas taped him in the midst of a foul-mouthed rant. Eszterhas had also written an open letter to Gibson, accusing him of anti-Semitism.

The incident occurred after Gibson halted production on a movie that they were working on. Mel rejected the script that Joe had written for The MACcabees, a story of the 2nd century BC Jewish revolt. The recording made public by Eszterhas allegedly featured Mel yelling, "Why don't I have a first draft of "The "MACcabees"? What the f*ck have you been doing?... I go to work, you're getting paid, I'm not! Sh*t! I am earning money for a filthy little c*cksucker who takes advantage of me! Just like every motherf*cker! So hurry the f*ck up!"
