MEGA MILLIONS, the American $1 lottery game, last night gave away a jackpot prize of $355 million, one of the biggest in its history. It was confirmed earlier today that two lucky ticketholders from Idaho and Washington have scooped the prize, but their identities have yet to be revealed, reports People Magazine.
However, much attention had been placed on the fact that last night's winning numbers echoed the 'cursed' numbers of Lost character 'Hurley'. In the award winning drama series, Hurley, played by Jorge Garcia, won $114 million with the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42. Last night's Mega Millions numbers were 4, 8, 15, 25, 47 and 42, meaning four out of the six matched. Hurley often referred to the digits throughout the show and believed his luck was cursed. Damon Lindelof, one of the creators of Lost, noticed the likeness and tweeted, "9,078 people played Hurley's numbers in the MegaMillions tonight, each winning $150".
It was reported that the Washington winner of yesterday's prize purchased their ticket at a 'Safeway' store in Ephrata, a town between Seattle and Spokane. Both winners will have to decide whether they want to receive their jackpot as a lump sum, or in 26 annual payments.
The show was previously given a second season after the first episode aired in February.
