Meat Loaf announces farewell tour

Meat Loaf has announced his farewell tour.

The legendary 'Bat out of Hell' singer will play a string of dates across the UK and Germany billed as ''a final goodbye to his fans.''

The 'Last At Bat' tour will be staged in two halves, with the first comprised of hits from across Meat Loaf's career, and the second a performance of the singer's 1977 'Bat Out Of Hell' debut album in full, in its original order.

Since its release in 1977, 'Bat Out of Hell' - written and composed by Jim Steinman - has sold over 45 million copies, making it one of the biggest selling records of all time. It still sells around 200,000 copies each year and has never left the UK charts.

Meat Loaf said: ''When Jim and I first came together, we couldn't have dreamt the profound effect 'Bat Out Of Hell' would have on both our lives, and the lives of our fans around the world.

''I know the fans will enjoy the show as much as I enjoyed putting it together.''

Meat Loaf - born Marvin Lee Aday - had to cancel an entire tour in 2007 after he was diagnosed with a cyst on his vocal cords. The energetic performer has also since had to cancel shows due to ill health, and last month was out of action for a few weeks after undergoing surgery on his knee.

Meat Loaf had performed his 'Mad, Mad World Tour' of the US from June this year, but also had to abandon four dates in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Tickets for the UK shows go on sale at 9am on Friday (21.12.12) and are available from www.meatloaf.net

Further European dates are expected to be announced in due course.
