Mccartney's Meat Row With Dalai Lama

Sir Paul McCartney tried to turn the Dalai Lama vegetarian, insisting the famed Buddhist was "wrong" to eat meat.

The Beatles legend wrote to the spiritual leader to point out that meat-eaters contribute to the suffering of animals, contradicting his statement that Buddhists "believe in not causing suffering to any sentient beings".

And the Hey Jude hitmaker even disagreed when the Dalai Lama insisted he ate meat for health reasons.

In an interview with Prospect magazine, MCCartney says, "I found out he was not a vegetarian, so I wrote to him saying 'Forgive me for pointing this out, but if you eat animals then there is some suffering somewhere along the line'.

"He replied saying that his doctors had told him he needed it, so I wrote back saying they were wrong."

I'm massive fans of both these gents who have brought so much good to the world. But is Macca vegan yet? Dairy and eggs are two of the very worst animal abusing industries. (As for "free range organic" - where are all the males, slaughtered in the first week, and the females don't last that much longer after they get past teenage and their productivity drops off) Go vegan guys! You are two of the most popular people in the world. Millions will follow your example as they have by following Macca to go veggie. There's plenty of help out there from The Vegan Society, PCRM, Vegetarian Resource Group, PETA etc and they can put your doctors in touch with real medical doctors who are reversing heart disease and diabetes with vegan diets. And plenty of celeb musicians like Prince, Moby, Alicia Silverstone, Woody Harrelson and Stella's mates at PETA.

His holiness the dalai lama is one of the profound spritual master of 21century whose comprehension can not be judged simply by announcing that he consumes meat we have to understand why this buddhist master consumes meat and what is the difference between He having non-veg and others ??living in scientific era human has developed huge intelegence to comprehend and to investigate the root causes and reasons hehind the frictions,i am not saying that Sir McCartney is wrong at the same time i don't agree with his blog as well,he failed to comprehend like the way general people could....buddhism never allows to hurt anyone and it respects every sentient beings which exist in this world..legend says the dalai lamas are said to be the reincarnation of Alokteshwara (Buddha of compassion in buddhist world) who wow to choose to be borned as human to help eliminate sufferings from the world until he does that he continues to take a new life on this world...if he takes 50 grams of meet to help millions he could probably choose to have that sins...he knew that he gonna be punished by the his karma but he wishes to do that just because he wants to continue his predecessor's unfinished work.......long life his holines the 14th dalai lama

Sir Paul is absolutely right! The fact that after all this time of residing in the West and the myriad of kinder food choices available here, the Dalai Lama (of all people) along with his Tibetan Buddhist sect are still not even vegetarians yet is really quite disheartening. By persisting in their outdated views and animal-product laden diets, they are also going against the very grain that makes up all basis of the Buddha's teaching. For how can one honestly speak/preach of Peace and Compassion while still making excuses for their part in the cruelty and abuse that is inherently present in all acts and aspects of meat consumerism?
