Mccartney: Yoko Didn't Break Up The Beatles

Paul McCartney has taped what is believed to be his longest television interview ever -- a three-hour session with David Frost for Al Jazeera English, to be serialized over three weeks beginning Nov. 9. The London Sunday Observer reported that the interview contains a segment in which McCartney blames the break-up of the Beatles on their manager, the late Allen Klein. I was fighting amongst the other three guys who'd been my lifelong soul buddies. I said I wanted to fight Klein. (McCartney reportedly wanted John Eastman, the brother of his then fiancée Linda, to act as the group's manager. The other three Beatles were reportedly impressed with what Klein had accomplished with the Rolling Stones and agreed to a contract in which Klein received 20 percent of the Beatles' earnings.) The comment seems to contradict numerous published reports blaming Yoko Ono for the split. She certainly didn't break the group up, McCartney says in the interview. The group was breaking up. He acknowledges that Yoko Ono had become a strong influence in Lennon's life. I don't think you can blame her for anything. When Yoko came along, part of her attraction was her Avant garde side, her view of things, so she showed him another way to be, which was very attractive to him.
