May: 'Queen Weren't Invited To Play Jubilee Gig'

Rocker Brian May has thanked fans for urging Queen to take to the stage at Queen Elizabeth II's diamond jubilee concert, but admits the band has not been invited to perform.

Sir Paul MCCartney, Sir Elton John, Dame Shirley Bassey and Sir Cliff Richard are among the stars set to headline a special gig, organised by Take That singer Gary Barlow, as part of the celebrations of the monarch's 60 year reign over the summer (12).

Queen fans were expecting the Bohemian Rhapsody legends to take to the stage again, 10 years after they rocked at the British monarch's golden jubilee in 2002.

However, May has revealed they didn't receive an invitation.

In a post on his website, he writes, "I've had many messages from folks who would like us to be at the jubilee show and I'd like to say thank to you all for the support.

"The truth is that we haven't been asked to be part of this 60th celebration. But that is fine - we don't have a right to expect anything. We gave our all to the 50th - so now it's somebody else's turn."
