Matthew Perry - Matthew Perry Used Own Rehab Experiences For Go On Tv Role
Actor Matthew Perry funnelled his own rehab experiences into his new role as a struggling widower in U.S. TV sitcom Go On.
The former Friends star checked into a treatment centre to focus on his sobriety for the third time last year (11), and as part of his recovery he worked with a therapist to conquer his substance abuse problems.
And after landing the part of Ryan King, a sportscaster who enrols in group therapy to overcome the loss of his wife, Perry admits he needed little research for his character - because he had participated in similar sessions before.
He tells People magazine, "After living through my 20s and 30s, I felt more than prepared for this role... I have a sort of non-secretive history of talking about my problems in circles for the last 15 years of my life.
"I really got the denial part. It's a part of my past. I'm not sure it's part of my present."
