Matthew Perry - Matthew Perry Takes A Break In Search Of Sobriety
Matthew Perry, the American actor best known for playing 'Chandler Bing' on 'Friends', is taking a break from acting to focus on his sobriety. Matthew Perry, who has previously battled addictions to alcohol and painkillers, says he needs to leave the world of show business to focus on his "life in recovery", reports Tmz.com.
Matthew's decision follows disappointing viewing figures for his new television comedy 'Mr Sunshine', which the 41-year-old starred in and co-produced. The show premiered in February 2011 but it is thought to be at risk of cancellation after low ratings. Speaking about this decision to take some time out, Perry said, "I'm making plans to go away for a month to focus on my sobriety and to continue my life in recovery. Please enjoy making fun of me on the world wide web". The actor's publicist confirmed that he was "going away" but stated that he was not currently in rehab. Perry made two trips to rehabilitation for addiction to alcohol and prescription painkillers during the hugely successful 10-year run of 'Friends'. Despite the continuing popularity of Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox, Perry has failed to establish himself as a major Hollywood actor since the end of the comedy series in 2004.
Matthew Perry's last television series 'Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip' was axed in 2007 following poor ratings.
