Matt Smith Pledges Future To Doctor Who After Awards Win
Gillan, known for playing The Doctor's companion Amy Pond, is set to leave the next series of the sci-fi show halfway through its run. Gillan said that she had 'the time of her life' filming the show. However, Smith announced that he has no plans to leave Doctor Who in the foreseeable future. Speaking to reporters, he said: "I sort of always knew that me and Karen would have slightly different journeys in the show. people say, 'Are you very sad?' I mean, I'm sad because I enjoy working with Karen and Arthur, they are wonderful guys. But also, this show is bigger than all of us actors in it and bigger than all of us who write it and has been going far longer and will continue far longer and have a life, way after me. I am here for a small period of time."
Head writer Steven Moffat updated his Twitter profile to congratulate Smith and Gillan: 'Matt and Karen - have Won at the Ntas. Mexican wave among all Who fans please! I'll start.' Elsewhere at the Nta's, period drama Downton Abbey beat Doctor Who to win Best Drama; The X Factor won Best Talent Show and presenting duo Ant and Dec won Best Entertainment Presenter for the eleventh year in a row.
