Matt Lauer - Matt Lauer Is Staying On To Host 'Today'
Matt Lauer, the face of Nbc's popular 'Today' programme has announced his intention to stick with the show, despite numerous rumours surrounding his position on the show. The show is one of the few real contenders to the throne of champion daytime programme, with most competition coming from Abc's 'Good Morning America.' Officials at Nbc obviously didn't want to take part in this ratings battle without the popular host and a long-term contract between Lauer and the network has been signed.
Lauer announced on air that he planned to remain on the show, stating that "this is my family," with crewmembers and his co-presenter bursting into a round of applause following the announcement, BND reports. The decision marks an important securing of stability for the show as it tries to maintain its dominance over morning television in the United States. Rumours of Lauer's departure came along with the news that American Idol host Ryan Seacrest could be taking over his post, however these rumours have now definitively been squashed.
He joked on the show that "Truth be told, I was developing an idea for a new show, where viewers could tune in every morning and see someone they know lose a little more of his hair every single day right in front of their eyes. But then I thought, I could just stay here and do that."
