Arctic Monkeys - Matt Helders Regrets Arctic Monkeys Album Title
Arctic Monkeys rocker Matt Helders regrets naming their 2011 album Suck It And See after fans and critics in the U.S. mistook the title for a reference to a sex act.
The Fluorescent Adolescent hitmakers used the British colloquialism as the title for their latest record because it means to try out something new.
But many in the U.S. wrongly assumed the phrase was a cheeky reference to oral sex, and bosses at several major retailers even insisted on covering the name with a sticker to avoid offending customers.
Drummer Helders has now admitted he wishes the band had chosen a different name for the record.
He tells Nme magazine, "Although we had a lot of fun making that album, there's always things you wish you hadn't done, like calling it Suck It And See... It caused a stir, mainly in America, 'cos they thought we were being rude. It would have been easier to call it (after album track) Black Treacle or something else and avoid answering questions about it. It took a lot of explaining!"
