Matt Cardle - Matt Cardle Dropped By Record Label After One Album?
Matt Cardle has reportedly been dropped by Columbia records after releasing just one album, 2011's 'Letters'. The X Factor winner beat the likes of One Direction, Rebecca Ferguson and Cher Lloyd on the 2010 edition of the show, but all three look likely to eclipse Cardle's brief success.
According to UK newspaper The People, Cardle and Columbia have decided to part ways, with a source saying, "He is hoping to take his career in a different direction. Everyone wishes him well". The 29-year-old is said to be working on the follow-up to his debut album in Los Angeles, with Cardle telling the Daily Star in March that he wants to take his time over the record, adding, "It has to be right and I'm not going to be rushed". Matt is the latest in a long-list of X Factor contestants to part ways with their record label, and according to the Daily Star on Sunday, last year's runner-up Marcus Collins is allegedly close to being dropped by Rca. A source said, "Marcus's sales have been really disappointing.Although his album went in at number seven, it only spent three weeks in the Top 40. No-one expected him to flop but he's one of the most unsuccessful runners-up in the show's history".
Though the show has spawned its fair share of disappointments, numerous X Factor acts have achieved notable success, including Alexandra Burke, Leona Lewis, Olly Murs, and, of course, One Direction.
