Marvin Humes - Marvin Humes: 'Jls Chart Success Overshadowed By Grandmother's Death'16 December 2012
British singer Marvin Humes struggled to celebrate the success of his band Jls' debut single Beat Again because his grandmother died days later.
The star's joy over the band's debut chart-topping track in 2009 was overshadowed by his nan Patricia's cancer battle, and he was left devastated when she passed away.
He tells Britain's Daily Mirror, "She lived in our house and passed away in our house. It was a really strange week because Beat Again went to number one and Nan passed away three days later.
"We were all really affected by it. We went through such joy and adulation of having our first number one single and then we lost nan. It was probably the hardest time of my life."
Humes is expecting his first baby with his pop star wife Rochelle Humes, of girl group The Saturdays, and admits he's upset his grandmother will never know his child.
He adds, "Not to have her around for the past few years has been really tough. She would have been an incredible great grandma. She had so much love to give and it's sad that she won't meet the baby."
