Marr 'Proud' To Have Inspired Vegetarians

24 July 2010
Former The Smiths star Johnny Marr feels "very proud" of the band's 1985 album MEAT IS MURDER - because the record inspired so many fans to become vegetarian.

The animal activist admits many devotees have told him they ditched meat after the album's release and he's called the controversial title the crowning achievement of his career.

In Neil Taylor's new book Document and Eyewitness: An Intimate History of Rough Trade, the guitarist says, "I am very proud of the fact that 20 years (sic) on people tell me they became a vegetarian as a result of Meat is Murder. I think that is quite literally rock music changing someone's life - it's certainly changing the life of animals. It is one of the things I am most proud of."
